Let’s get to it!!!!
Happy Star Wars Day!
This is a big day in our house! Especially with Big Sister and her dad. Star Wars is their ‘thing’. He is a kid of the 80’s and remembers seeing every movie in the theaters. When I spent my first Thanksgiving with his family, we watched two or three in one day. It’s a whole thing and he has passed the love down to his firstborn. I did not even know what Star Wars was growing up. I was a kid of the 80’s, but apparently my parents failed me somewhere along the way. (Kidding!)
When I was 18 and working at Hollywood Studios, I had the pleasure of working Star Wars weekends. (Bring back SWW!!!) I spent the whole day with Chewbacca… the real Chewbacca! As in, Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays Chewie. I am embarrassed to tell you that I didn’t even know what a Chewbacca was or what a big ordeal I was in the middle of. Or how one day I would be married to a man who loved Star Wars and mother a little girl who would dress like Rey to Princess Day at dance. Instead, I was just sweating in my polyester shirt waiting for the day to be over. I do remember that he was the nicest celebrity that I had the please of meeting during my time at Disney World. I didn’t feel like I was hanging with a celebrity all day. He was just a super nice, SUPER tall guy. I didn’t even get a picture. We just compared hand sizes… which was AMAZING! My whole hand fit into the palm of his. At least I have that story to impress my family with. 😉
Years later I was back at the Studios with my kids and mom in tow. Baby Sister was doing her best wookie call in this picture. Time flies!
It’s a great thing that Disney added so much Star Wars goodness to Hollywood Studios! Big Sister requested a Star Wars day instead of a birthday party last year. We had such a fun day celebrating with her!
Waking up super early for Jedi Training is a MUST! Our family arrived at the park an hour before opening and it worked out so well for us. We were able to score the time slot we had hoped for. Big Sister was thrilled and had high hopes of fighting Vadar.
The park hadn’t even opened by the time we signed up, so we headed towards Star Wars Launch Bay and got in line to meet Chewbacca. The wait was only about five minutes and then guest were allowed in to meet him. On the way out the Storm Troopers surrounded Big Sister and played with her. BB8 also followed her around the courtyard. Our day was packed full of Star Wars goodness! (Another post for another time.)
If you know anything about me, you know that I love picking outfits for Disney trips!
And if you don’t know me… “Hi! I’m Sunni and I kind of have a Disney outfit obsession…”
On our last trip, Belle begged for a Rey costume to wear to for Jedi Training. The little girls hadn’t really gotten into the movies at that point, so I picked them up shirts from the little boy’s section at Old Navy and paired them with mustard shorties. My sister also found my nephew’s shirt at Old Navy.
*Girl moms: Don’t be afraid to shop graphic tees in the boy’s section at Target. Middle sister is currently obsessed with Maui from Moana and we searched high and low for anything Maui to wear and finally scored at Old Navy. Boys section, of course.
I found this sweatshirt at Target in February and bought to to represent my family on my last Disney trip since they weren’t there to share in the fun. It’s so light weight and soft and I wore nearly every day on that trip. In fact, I wear it at least once a week. It’s become ‘that item’ of clothing. I sent my sister a picture from the eye doctor today and she said “are you really wearing a Star Wars shirt today?” (I told you our parents failed us….) I respond with “Yes. The fourth is with me.”
Looking towards our next trip, I found some AWESOME Star Wars items at Gap.
Big sister LOVES this outfit. I do, too! All the way to the cute Leia buns! This is a must for us!
I am also loving these adorable shorts. I love it when a piece has just a small touch of theming and is not in your face with it.
These shoes are so fun, too! The girls would have a blast wearing them to school with their uniforms. (BTW… these shoes are for boys or girls.)
Although I have found the Star Wars sweatshirt of my dreams, it will be hot when we next visit Disney World, so I probably won’t be bringing it. On my last trip, I decided that hat wearing was my thing. Honestly… it saved me precious time every morning and helped me to get out the door and into the fun. Not to mention, it’s better for my aging skin. Sigh…. I think this hat would be so cute with a white top, denim shorts and a pair of Converse.
I love that Star Wars has been added to Hollywood Studios in such a big way. Our family cannot wait until Star Wars Land opens in the future!
May the Fourth be with You!!!
